Gently rotate the distributor until the coffee grounds are evenly distributed and level. If the distributor does not reach the coffee ground, adjust the depth accordingly. You do not need to apply a lot of pressure to the coffee bottomless portafilter basket at this stage - just allow the basket to flatten out. Then, flip your tool over and use the flat bottom palm to tamp the coffee powder flat. To maintain consistent tamping every time, adjust the tamping depth to match the tamping depth you created in the previous step.

For a 58 or 58.5 mm portafilter, you need to choose a 58 mm coffee distributor. The 58 mm espresso distributor/leveler is in a 2-in-1 dual head design, combining the dispenser/leveler and hand tamper functions into one unit. Both sides can be used simultaneously. The four-page auger design tampers the coffee powder plane of the bottomless portafilter basket, ensuring consistent tamping pressure and a consistent, even plane every time.
